This Nevada annual cross-agency statewide event brings together professionals, clinicians, first responders, veterans, suicide attempt and loss survivors, including concerned citizens across all sectors for a day of phenomenal learning from recognized experts on critical topics and skills in suicide ideation and prevention.
The symposium is designed to support statewide suicide prevention efforts and local communities in implementing the recommendations of the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention that emphasizes the importance of gaining strong and broad support of a variety of principals and, stakeholders.

Dr. Tom Joiner, Ph.D
“Understanding Murder Suicide”
​
Dr. Tom Joiner is an American academic psychologist and leading expert on suicide.He is The Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor in the Department of Psychology at Florida State University (FSU), Tallahassee, Florida. Dr. Joiner’s work is on the psychology, neurobiology, and treatment of suicidal behavior and related conditions. Author of over 515 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Joiner was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship and the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Residency Fellowship. The Lawton Professorship, which Dr. Joiner received in 2010, is FSU’s single highest honor. Dr. Joiner has authored or edited seventeen books, including “Why People Die By Suicide”, and “Myths About Suicide”, published in 2010, Harvard University Press, and the book “The Perversion of Virtue: “Understanding Murder-Suicide” published by Oxford University Press in 2014.

Recognized as a dynamic national keynote speaker, Sean travels throughout the country to share his inspirational story. Coupled with cutting edge, interactive training, Riley hits those once thought of as "taboo" or "controversial" topics head-on.
Dr. Corinne Cherek, Ph.D.
“Healing Grief, Trauma from Suicide Loss”

Dr. Corinne Cherek has a Doctoral Degree in Philosophy, specializing in Transpersonal Counseling. Corinne has a unique balance of education, experiences, growth, and healing that sets her apart from most. Much of her work is centered in Psychology and Spirituality focusing primarily with grief, loss, trauma, and life transitions. Corinne believes life lessons and challenges can be transformed into gifts and opportunities for personal and spiritual growth; grief can be transformed into grace and wounds may be transformed into wisdom
